Altimeter negative spiking after 17.50 upgrade, causing gigantic errors

After the latest 17.50 firmware upgrade, my Instinct seems to gone totally useless in regards to the altimetry.

Until now, it was more or less usable, as a lot of people had reported, it usually record more positive climb that should (maybe between 10% to 20% excess).

But now look at the altimetry record. Those negative continuous spiking caused that about a 890 meters total climb, the device recorded 6600 meters total climb !! That is so insanely wrong.

I have done this route several times, never happened before.

Device was calibrated prior to start, the start altimeter is right at about 1050 meters.

Does anybody know why the barometer has gone this wrong?

Same problem here. Since update 17.50, I reach more than 7000 metres in altitude on an after-work tour (<2h) with the MTB!

Me too with this annoyng 'feature'...

downgraded to 17.00, now the swatch is useful againg.

with 17.50 in a run I gained 1248 meters total ascent starting from 944 meters to 1473 meters... without descending 1 meter... the day was sunny without clouds...

download the 17.00 Beta, inside you will find two folders

System_1700 containg the beta version

System_Backdate_1650 contatining the 16.50 stable version

Didn't know, that beta SW packages do contain a fallback option. Never dealt with those beforehand.

I'll give it a try this evening. Once I have figured out how to downgrade safely without loosing my personal settings. You don't have by incident a second link for this exercise?

Any support would be highly appreciated!

When you connect the Instinct as a USB mass storage device, you'll find a subfolder 'Settings' in the GARMIN main folder. It contains the 'Settings.fit' file. You can try and save that one, then put it back on the device after downgrading the driver. No guarantee that it'll work, because the settings may have changed between 16.50 and 17.50.

Guess I'll have to go and try the same...

There is more than just that, that you need to copy:

Just a heads up: copying the settings back to 16.50 did not work for me. At all.

In that case it is either not firmware related, or you need to find and downgrade the previous Sensor Hub firmware too.

Did you loose your individual settings "only", or were you not able to downgrade?

After having read several threads on the 16.50 version and its flaws, I would now even go one more step into the past and downgrade to 16.00. But I could not find any old zip or gcd File of that version.

Anybody out there with a personal backup of SW 16.00?
