Instinct freezing during activity after latest update

After installing an update to my Instinct last Saturday morning (4/30/22), I have had 2 random freezes - the screen freezes shortly after starting the activity and all buttons are unresponsive - shortly after starting walking activities. The watch was updated to version 17 software several days before the subsequent update which is coincident with the freezes. Is this situstion a bug with the update or is my Instinct malfunctioning?

  • I am sorry there is an issue. It is impossible to say what the cause is but since you mentioned having updated to the v17.00 software recently released, it will be best to handle the issue like any other serious issue.

    Please try the following:

Hard Reset: Hold down your top left power button until your watch shuts off then let go once off

Factory Master Reset: How to Reset My Garmin Outdoor Watch

If your freezing behavior should continue, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • Since upgrading to v.17.0 I have been experiencing random reboots during workouts on the Instinct too. Recently it also didn't correctly sync the workout. It showed only 1 set out of 25. I hope a future firmware will fix this issue, as it wasn't a problem before v.17.0

EXACTLY my issue. Was there a resolution?

  • I was on the chat with garmin support team, and they recommended I delete my old activities on the watch (the activities still remain on garmin connect, but not on the watch).

And from looking on this forum, I saw that it could be an issue with the workout name, so I also ended up duplicating the workout, renaming it to a shorter name and without special symbols like , . : -, etc., and I deleted the old workout with the longer name and special symbols.

I have still to do a workout after these changes to see if the watch will continue freezing and rebooting, but the garmin rep told me that if the issue persists to get back in touch with him. So in a few days I should find out, if it resolved the issue.
