Please Add Lap Counter to Countdown Timer

The instinct is within a hair's breadth of being the perfect gym rat's weightlifting set timer.  The one missing feature is that, every time that the user cycles through the timer, there should be a lap count on that.  As you can imagine, when one lifts weights with headphones blaring music, this is what you want:

1) To be able to time your rest between sets of weight lifting.

2) When the programed rest time has elapsed, a vibration alarm (the instinct has this which is awesome).

3) To be able to track how many sets you've done so far in total.  This is what I feel is missing.

Right now, I wear one of these in addition to my instinct in order to get the functionality: SportCount Countdown Timer | Sportcount.  It's annoying to have to wear a separate time keeping device for this purpose.  I paid nearly as much for the Sportcount as I did for my instinct too.  So I feel that there's a real market opportunity with this.

Note that I realize that there is a preprogrammed weight training app for the instinct.  It does not do what I'd like it to since it counts up instead of down.

Thanks,

Adam

  • This is easily possible with the available means:

    1. Go to Workouts in Garmin Connect
    2. Select Strength in the workout type dropbox and hit the button Create Workout
    3. Delete all the three default steps
    4. Click the button Add a Round
    5. Set the number of Repeats to a sufficiently high number that you'll possibly never reach
    6. Edit the first step to your liking
    7. Change the second step using the option Rest for the Step Type, Time for the field Duration, and enter the desired rest time.
    8. Save the workout and send it to the device

When you then start the workout on the watch, after you complete your weight lifting exercise, and proceed to the next step (rest), it will count down, exactly like you wanted. It also beeps 5 times before the end of the programmed rest time, and vibrates at the end.

Repeat the exercise as many times as you want or can, and once you finish, press the button GPS to stop and save the activity. You'll then see the number of completed rounds in the activity details.
