Instinct solar Powers off randomly

My watch has just started to power off randomly which bothers me cause I can't get it to turn back on without plugging it in to charge which it don't need to charge as I have just charged it or it has enough power for at leat 10 or more days.  What can I do to make it work?

  • I am sorry there is an issue.

    Please try the following:

Hard Reset: Hold down your top left power button until your watch shuts off then let go once off.

If the issue continues, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • My watch has done the same for the last month - randomly turns itself off despite having more than 10 days charge left - it is an expensive Solar model I bought last year after my previous Garmin's batter life decreased to next to nothing after less than 3 years use - time to try another supplier.

  • Ever since watch did firmware update it randomly turns off. Even if battery is 50%. Watch goes from fully charged..11 days to 7 days in 24 hours. If battery is 50% then I do a manual pulse ox reading it turns off.

Ive tried to reset watch, then done a hard rest, then done a system wipe. Same issue. Purchased watch in Aug 2020.

  • Even i face the same issue. Power will be like 60% + and then it switch off randomly.

I also noticed this power off problem when i try to run the Pulse Ox manually. Sometimes the Power On button do not work post these kind of shutdown. Either I have to connect the Power cable or I have to press Left Upper two buttons together to switch on the watch.

    This started recently only

  • Hello.

For a month, my instinct solar (fw 18.54) randomisés powers off, but sometime it’s not random. When i want to start an activity, especially with Treadmill Running.

One month with such bugs it’s kinda long.

Let me add that i have made a reboot, a reset and a factors reset without succes.

I hope it will be better with a new update.

  • Mines is exactly the same, i'm gutted! Its only a year old, been great up until the last few wks, but now it turns itself off more often when i'm recording an activity. Cost me £229 and i'm feeling robbed now

  • I've returned my one under warranty to Amazon - it will take 10 days to get back which is annoying - tried all the suggested 'fixes' but still powered off randomly - seems lots of people are having the same issue, maybe Garmin should consider a recall of the Solar ?

  • I am sorry you have an issue. Regarding your comment, the restart issue remains rare and is not common. My sincere apologies you have had to exchange your watch.

  • I also have this problem. It first shut off when there was 7+ days of battery. I was not able to turn it back on or charge it. I gave up on it for a month then tried again. This time it charged and turned on. It worked for about 30minutes with 27+ days battery life on screen, then shut off when it went to pulse ox (automatically). I plugged it back in and it didn’t charge right away. After a while I checked and it was back on. Unplugged and it turned off again. I’ve considered trying to get a new battery if one is available but I’m not confident that’s the issue. I think Garmin should have a solution for it by now and acknowledge it is a problem they need to look into. I’ve had the watch for 2 years so it’s past the warranty. Surely it should last longer than 2 years under normal use right? Disappointing.

  • Mines is under a year old but i no longer have the  receipt, the watch  has been fantastic up until very recently. I've rebooted etc as garmin advise but even this morning's walk , it again switched off . Surely its repairable as i refuse to shell out cash for another
