Alarm when a distance from a point is exceeded in Garmin Instinct? i.e. Anchor Drag Alarm or Reverse Proximity Alarm.

Some boat GPSs have Anchor Drag Alarms. Also useful for Man Overboard situations.   One sets a waypoint when an anchor is dropped. One enters a distance or radius from that point equal to the length of chain on the anchor.  If the GPS observes a lat-long outside that radius it sounds an alarm as the anchor is likely dragging.

I have seen mention of "Proximity Alarms" here and on non-Garmin sites.  On the Garmin Instinct can the proximity to a waypoint alarm be reversed to sound when one exceeds a distance from the point?

  • I have researched this best i can for 4 days and the semantics of wording are never clear.  "range of values" inspires hope.  But all seem to be fixated on an alarm when one nears a point.

  • The proximity alarm will alert you during an activity for which you've set a proximity alarm when you are within the programmed radius from the waypoint and will alert you when you have left the programmed radius of the waypoint.  What I don't know is if you are already inside the radius of the waypoint when you start your activity, that you will be alerted when you exit the radius.  I would guess it would, but you'll just have to try it.
