Pool Swim - Length

I have had the Instinct for over a year and love it. I use is in GPS mode hiking and walking  and the other activity I record is my swimming in my pool at home. I mainly use it just to record and display the time I'm swimming, and do use the Pool Swim mode for the workout. One thing that intrigues me is why there is what seems to be an minimum arbitrary limit on the Pool length to 14 metres? I'm sure people don't realistically do laps in 3 metre Jacuzzi spas, but my 8 metre pool is quite adequate for lap swimming. It takes about 4 1/2 full strokes to do a length. I set the pool length on the Garmin to 16 metre, and it doesn't quite record double the distance. But Garmin can you adjust the lower limit to maybe 5 metres as I am sure might even do laps in the backyard and record it like this?

  • The limit is there for a reason, so do not expect it to change.

  • I totally agree with your thoughts, as from time to time I am forced to swim lenghts in a 7 or 8 meter pool. Regularly, I can use a 14 meter pool, luckily for me, that is exactly the minimum value to be set. However, already at 14 meters, my watch does not count every length if my strokes are too long. I have observed it counts only my breaststroke lengths, if I do at least 4 or 5 strokes. So your stroke count could be limit and after your workout it could be possible that it showes only a few lenghts or even 0 meters in total.
