How do training plans work?

I own an Instinct Solar and couldn't find a discussion board for this question, so apologies if it should be elsewhere.

I'm new to Garmin and I opted for a beginner training plan but I'm not sure what to do with it. There are strange looking numbers (eg W01D1-Cross Training) and then what looks like an instruction eg Cross train, 30 minutes. Optional: Yoga or Pilates class. What does "cross train" mean? Am I supposed to record a session of whatever (cross training?) on my watch? Do I just make it up myself? I've never done Yoga or Pilates so I wouldn't know where to start with those either.

Any help or pointers to help would be very much appreciated.

Oh - and if anyone knows if there's a way to get the training plans on my phone (Samsung/Android). I can only access the instructions on my desktop computer via the web at the moment.

  • Never mind. The training plan appeared on Garmin Connect today, a day later, in the sort of format I expected (I thought I'd scheduled it to show up yesterday).

After further Googling, I found out what to do on the Garmin website, together with more details in the manual. After some trial and error, I'm now able to do the training plan using my watch.

PS this is a terrific feature. I wonder if Garmin will ever tailor some walking plans - for oldies, disabled, people who aren't able to run. Would be the icing on the cake Slight smile

  • Glad you found the solution to your question.

I also think that Garmin's slogan 'Beat Yesterday' isn't appropriate when you reach a certain fitness level due to age or other factors. The running training plans, for example, are a little tough and don't give sufficient recovery times for older runners.
