Garmin Instinct Solar

I want to change the settings on my Instinct Solar so it shows a 4 or (preferably) 6 figure grid reference. I have changed the format and datum settings to 'British Grid' and 'Ord Srvy GB'. However, it gives me a 5 figure grid reference. What have I missed?

Thanks

Jim

  • What you are seeing on your Instinct watch are standard GPS defaults when you change the Format field to British Grid.

  • I'm a bit late do let me just clarify what you are seeing.

What you are seeing is actually a 10 figure grid reference. For example you might see something in the format of:

    TQ: 12345

    BNG: 67891

So the two letters you see in the top line is the code for the specific type of map you have. It might be different letters. BNG just stands for British National Graphic which is exactly the same as OS Map.

So to get from this 10 figure grid reference to a six you just only look at the first 3 of each line.o

So for here it would be "TQ 123 , 679" and that would be your 6 figure grid reference
