Once I have turned both 3D elevation and 3D distance on via the Navigation (not Navigate) settings; does this mean that they are switched on when simply recording a route live in Walk & Hike?
I am hoping that they are.
Thank you.

The 3D speed and 3D distance can be turned on for each of the Walk and Hike activities too. Highlight the activity, hold down your middle left menu buton, select Walk Settings/Hike Settings etc.

Thank you.
That works as you say.
I have gotten my head around the Instinct now and it is working well for me.
It's a steep learning curve device for those new to these things plus I think that Garmin logic is somewhat out of kilter with mine!
I really wish someone had put together a proper how to use it manual which would have helped enormously.
The current manual is simply a step by step guide to device functionality with a lot of supposition that the reader knows the background to Garmin's logic train and how to use any similar device in the field so to speak.
When I first received it and started to read the manual I literally did not know where to start to set the device up!!!
Anyway, great piece of kit now I have fathomed it out - at least as far as my needs are for it.
Web software is a bit of a clunker though - very glitchy and so slow at times. We even have 1Gb at the router hyperfast Broadband and the sites (Connect and Explore) 'hang' from time to time or an error message pops up.
Can't have it all I suppose!
