software updated without being pluuged in?

Today my Instinct notified me that it had been updated to 15. something. It has not been plugged in to anything for charging for several days. I had understood that plugging into a PC USB for charging was how updates were installed. It has been connected to my smartphone and the smartphone connected to the Internet so I suspect the update occurred by those connections.

My Instinct just updated itself to 15.10 without any physical connection. This is a standard feature.

Mine did the same thing. After the update it wouldn't sync with Garmin connect so tried un- pairing and then pairing again but it doesn't pair successfully so now can't connect it

The Garmin Connect app will download software updates automatically behind the scenes while your device is connected to the Garmin Connect app on your mobile phone. There are no further steps required for you to obtain the latest software. Generally, updates will take up to a few days to download to your device. Once downloaded, updates will install automatically or prompt you to install them on your device.
