Garmin HRM-Dual connection issue

Never had this issue until recently - so I'm assuming it may be related to recent software updates on my Instinct. Previously, when I started the default Hike app, it would show that the HRM-Dual was connected within a second or two. Now I often have to turn off the watch and restart it for the HRM to connect. Anyone else notice this? Once it connects, it has a very reliable connection. It's just a pain to have to restart the watch when it didn't have to do this in the past.

  • I am sorry you are experiencing issues. I double checked and do not see any other HRM-Dual reports worldwide regarding either the strap itself or the Instinct series watches. There are troubleshooting steps that might resolve your issue.

    Please try the following:

    1) Soft Reset: hold down your top left CTRL button until your Instinct shuts off

    2) Reset to Defaults: Resetting All Default Settings

    3) Remove the batteries for 5 minutes from your HRM-Dual.

    4) Change the batteries if the issue continues.

  • Update: I had tried 1 & 2 above, but didn't suspect the batteries since the HRM would connect as soon as I restarted the watch. Also, the HRM works flawlessly once connected. What I did try seems to be working - not sure why: I was connecting my Bluetooth powerbeats to my phone prior to starting the hiking app. Since reversing the order, the HRM connects within a second or two.
