It would be really awesome for us open water swimmers if Garmin implemented an auto pause/resume feature just like in other sports. As GPS underwater is extremely unreliable I suggest using strokes as a trigger for the auto pause/resume. The activity could pause when no strokes are detected for say 1-2 seconds and resume after a number of strokes are detected. Open water swimmers don't really move their hands a lot during their pause intervals so there would be few if any "false resumes".
If implemented, this feature would very much improve the total experience as there would be no need to press any buttons for pause/resume (and could also reduce risk of water damage).
And it is really simple for the developers to implement.
I really hope someone from Garmin gives attention and I've already posted it here: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/
