Instinct Dog Track Function 180 Degrees off from Alpha 100 and Pro 550 Plus

FWIW - if you’re using a Garmin instinct watch with an Alpha 100 or a Pro 550 Plus, check out the "dog tracking" feature. My watch downloaded a software update during the week. The dog track feature now points a 180 degrees off from the Alpha. The Alpha is correct. I’ve re-calibrated the compasses on both the Alpha and the watch. Both compasses match. Also, removed then added back the dog track widget and re-paired the devices.  Finally, I reinstalled the software update to the watch. The Instinct watch dog track pointer is still 180 degrees out from the Alpha 100's.

Friends with Alpha 100's and Pro 550 Plus are reporting similar problems.

Info on Instinct watch:

  • Software is up to date — Version 13.20.0.0
  • Synced Sunday, Mar 21 at 12:58
  • Serial Number: 5UM395036

The Alpha 100 software is up to date.

I reported the problem to Garmin customer service.

  • I’m experiencing a similar issue with my instinct too, auto updated to 13.20 and now true north is 180 degrees off from mag. north..

  • This is really weird. Maybe you could try to a) start an activity requiring GPS, just to ensure that the GPS position is acquired, and then terminate it; b) sync the watch with Explorer, just to see if there is some update to the sensor hub; and then c) sync the watch with GC to see if there is an update to the magnetic declination data for your position. This value should be the only thing between true and magnetic north, but I have no idea where the watch gets it from. My apologies, If this turns out to be just a crazy loss of time.

    Best of luck

  • Former Member - I am sorry there is an issue with the Dog Widget after the v13.20 Instinct software update. I have sent you a Private Message to gather more information.
