  • same here, 3 days old watch and freezes every 3-4 hours. Not good...

  • Just had another freeze this past night (V13.20). This time, I had the extended sync audit active, and took the time to look a little bit into things. The quick version is that I could not find anything pointing to the cause. So disappointed. I was hoping to find an iffy connection to the phone that might have created a problem while attempting to sync. I have no idea why some Instincts are freezing and others are not. Addressing your suggestions individually:

    • Is there a gap in the sleep or HR data, or does the watch continue to record the data?

Yep. The HR measurement stops. The full period between freeze and recovery is flat lined on GC. The absence of data for the period can also bee seen in the wellness.fit file.

    • Was there sufficient free space on the storage? The watch could perhaps freeze because of an overfilled storage.

Yes. More than 3.5 MB. Memory does not seem to be the issue

    • Are you using the default face, or an alternative one

Default, but with step count instead of sunrise time. The watch face is probably not to blame.

    • Did you check the Device Sync Audit, trying to browse to a sync audit from the time when the watch froze, trying to find some errrors or warning?

No sync was attempted at that time. The previous sync (two hours earlier) had been fully successful.

    • Did you look into the folder //GARMIN/Debug, after the freeze, checking for a file with a matching time stamp?

Yes. No such  error reports exists.

    • Did you try resetting the watch, and running certain time with the default settings to see whether it happens too?

Several hard factory resets along these last few months. BTW, do you know how to fully restore the file system to factory conditions? The usual factory resets do not seem to clean the file system.

    • Is it more likely to happen in a low-battery state?

    Nope :(

Glad not everybody is going through this.

If you’re using a Garmin instinct watch with an Alpha 100 or a Pro 550 Plus, check out the "dog tracking" feature. My watch downloaded a software update (13.20.0.0) during the week. The dog track feature now points a 180 degrees off from the Alpha. The Alpha is correct. I’ve re-calibrated the compasses on both the Alpha and the watch. Both compasses match. Also, removed then added back the dog track widget and re-paired the devices.  Finally, I reinstalled the software update to the watch. The Instinct watch dog track pointer is still 180 degrees out from the Alpha 100's.

Friends with Alpha 100's and Pro 550 Plus are reporting similar problems.

    Info on Instinct watch:

    • Software is up to date — Version 13.20.0.0
    • Synced Sunday, Mar 21 at 12:58
    • Serial Number: 5UM395036

The Alpha 100 software is up to date.

I reported the problem to Garmin customer service.
