When firmware developers add batery charge in %?

Does anybody know how to ask firmware developers to change battery status frim "bricks" a-la Nokia 3310 style to %? Or how to let them listen to buyer's opinion and community requests? It's very inconvenient to us!

  • just annoying the regular visitors with ever repeating posts.

That's the nature of such forums(*). New users come and go, usually asking the same questions. As frustrating as that is, it's important for veteran posters to be welcoming and patient with new users rather than abrupt or dismissive.

(*) While I'm new to Garmin and Instinct, I'm a veteran poster on several other forums. I have to deal with similar users on a daily basis. That's just the nature of the beast.

  • Now you see that user want to see % instead of bars. Will you still reject user's choice and needs?

  • You are wrind! Nobody asked about hardware improvement or additional hardware installation in particular watch. It's a firmware feature without any affection to functionality of the watch. Dont mesh hardware and firmware improvements. I can explain why % need to be shown in watch. Don't you know about battery lifecycle? More you charge it lessit live. For my very active lifestyle I use watch to record my everyday watersports activities and i need to know remaining % of battery charge befire I go to my  activity. If I will have % I can calculate how many % of battery I use for 2 or for 3 hours of my  activity recording. So next time when I plan start activity recording I can understand  how long my watch will work on remaining charge. It save my battery from unneeded xharging cycles which is significantly reduce battery life and performance. Or, if it's very hard tofix task for garmin designers, % must be showing at Garmin Connect App. It's obviously for everyone except Garmin. If I would be garmin chief of firmware design I woud be resign guy who a) design bars instead of % , d) immediately implement this fix in fiemware update due to customer's objective dissatisfaction

That was simply an example of something that's not possible to add to an existing model.

I can explain why % need to be shown in watch. Don't you know about battery lifecycle?

No need to explain. I understand how Li-Ion battery charging works. Essentially the best time to recharge is approximately 20%. That's when the display goes down to one bar. Simple. Easy.

The percentage feature is available on the Solar version of this watch. So there must be some reason why it didn't get added to the basic Instinct. My speculation:

    1. It could be technical, perhaps as simple as there isn't enough room in the ROM.

    2. Or it may be for marketing reasons. For instance the Instinct is now 2 years old. There are indications that a new model will soon be introduced. Perhaps Garmin will make battery %age a new feature of that model.

There is no point in getting mad at people on this thread. We don't work for Garmin. We can't change the product for you. A Garmin representative already gave their official response. If you still feel strongly about the lack of %age on your Instinct then contact Garmin directly and make the request to them.

  • I would like to request this as well, as what you are saying here, Chris, is simply untrue. The Garmin Instinct Solar version shows the bars along with the percentage.

This is all we want on the regular Instinct.

Is there somewhere to submit feature requests?

The regular Instinct and the Solar are virtually identical in every way, thus I can't believe this is not a viable request.

    Thanks!

  • Did I asked you to explain to me possible answers from Garmin?

    - No!

So please don't reply for Garmin if you're not official Garmin representative.

And word the request more politely than here ;)

    • Agreed with you. I myself have an Instinct and i hate their ugly old and slow UI both in watch and Garmin phone app like back in xx century. I also own a Samsung and Apple watch and i like their gorgeus smooth and easy to use UI. I bought this Instinct for its unique navigation app and old day tough design. But it's over now. Garmin still keeps their old way selling more expensive products than other rivals while their softwares are terrible and especially ignoring their own customer's feedback. I'd never buy anything from Garmin. There is a lot out there Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Fitbit ... Why do you guys who already owned Garmin devices and even ever their fans still hesitate ? You can go get your things from many others. Just let Garmin sell.their products to their own customers who is even not respected by them.
  • Yes, we're all hostages of old-fashioned Garmin style. But I stupidly joing this club for expensive price fo I will use Instinct till it's death. But after I will definitely change brand for most customers welcome  Chinese.
