First Experiences - And what I've learned - ..Improvements?

Having the Instinct now for over a week, I've got the following experiences to share and things learned.

I started my learning proces with youtube, but than also found the manual. I went to fast to youtube probably. The manual would have been helpfull too.

Went here (forum) for 'turn-by-turn' navigation. It seems one has to use the connect app to upload routes for better turn (directional) navigation.

Suprised by yesterdays storm message, one has to put it on manually, it was windless, but after that, it became stormy, Storm Bella, nice experience...

Technique takes a lot of effort to use, adjust, calibrate, but than it slowly on it seems to work well.

I found elevation (of routes) in maps (in the connect app, explore app probably too) can be choosen / adjusted by the map too.

Because it's a watch I think it's accuracy can be more easily 'misled' and wouldn't expect professional sensor-data.

The watch serves me as a stand-alone device and I hope it will evolute further, stand-alone and in connection with (web/)apps.

I figured out, I think, 80% of it's possibilities. Left mostly at learning app-usage, connect and explore app, but also basecamp (not sure if explore will replace it?)

Which is... all together quite a somewhat extinctive pratice still.

One can use express on pc/mac for firmware updates also.

I like it's battery-life, durability and simplicity. (size / weight) (readablilty)

(though battery-life from fenix 3 and up seems to be about the same)

[ Bought it over my Samsung Gear Fit 2 (a good fitness tracker, also with gps btw) ...for supporting route navigation ]

ABC - ..seems to be al lot going on about this on the forum

I've adjusted my elevation settings. That changes the baro-measurement too. Now, it's seems to be right. referring to official stats.
Tracked routes can be adjusted in elevation by the app if wanted afterwarts.

Compass works well. Wiggling it slightly, like with an analog compass and then get it stable, helps.

Temperature is not great, also not advertised with, but there is a widget for the internal sensor. It seems to works better under water.
/ External temperature sensor can be connected via bluetooth.

update:
Tested the internal watch-temp outside, by laying it outside for 15 to 30 minutes and it worked.
The 'internet' outside temperature (via bluetooth) gave 5 and the internal temperature gave 6.

..red somewhere that that is somehow the calibration method

Wearing the watch de (internal sensor) temperature (shown by the widget) is to much affected by body temperature and sleeves. It seems to be with every watch.

I will go on testing route navigation assistance and learning the connect and explore app (and the basecamp macos app)

update:

I made a route in the Connect app, <menu: ...more (right under) then select training, then select course, then make course>

Making a (bike) course one can (have to) add points, I put them in every corner of the navigation and then saved it and synced with the watch.

(after sync) Through the GPS button I selected 'biking' and then selected by pushing the menu button after that, my-course (under courses)

! The navigation experience was very nice. I had to go to the start, it picked up the start automaticly, and gave the amount of meters to and direction of the next turn, about 50 or 75 meters before the turn it beeped and told me I was nearing the turn and its direction, counting off the meters - Absolutely perfect. Simply effective.

Making the course was easy, it did a lot automaticly, I didn't had to enter every corner when I selected a corner further on the course. Those automacly created corners were also alerting as  next turn / turn reminder during the route (course).

After ending the route. I wanted to do it in opposite direction, which can be selected after selecting the course (again). Somehow it did not give me directions. I am not sure if it was because of I missed the start or that directions are not available for following a course in the opposite direction of what it was made for. So it only showed me the course/route overview, where I was and kilometers in total left. ...I might find out in the future.

I can add to this that on my first day using the watch I downloaded a tracked gpx route of someone of the internet and tried to bike it, but I couldn't find the start and went home without accomplishment. So practise is needed. Courses by others (other sources) may be worse, I expect.

I found a lot frustrated reactions on the forum and regretted my visit a bit, try it this way... maybee some good will come out...

Update: + improvement, evolution ideas/directions

Now, after a few weeks use, I finally (almost) tackled all the Instinct functionality. I think it's a nice watch for someone, who likes a bit no nonsense, away from the phone 'fancy'.
Allthough the apps are very important for the data exploration and preperation (app & even better; web - on the big screen)

Though, now, having found it's limits, more or less. And explored the other watches also. I have some little improvements for the instinct line, taking it's future serious.

Staying under the Fenix line, I suppose, some general improvement could be...

- a light form of IQ connect in the form of "IQ" widgets. <GENERAL> for example, more day to day data, pulled from the internet,
...for example, stocks / farming / gasoiline..prices, ...a grocery list,
...maybee a little "IQ" for clockfaces too. for 120x 120 pixel
- loading new weather-data without opening connect app <SPECIFIC>
- improving the quick answers of messages <SPECIFIC> if possible by platform ios, android / messaging apps
- higher pixel count screen in future models <NICE> keeping it monochrome
- larger screen use within the circle <NICE> keeping it monochrome
- use of a type of metal for the ring, making it able to turn round, buttons of metal too <NICE> titanium edition ...maybee -
- a Geocaching <ACTIVITY> ?
- Scheduling widget alerts, like (show it) daily at 4:00 pm, or alert by 'IQ' widget

- Changing what is shown in the little circle by clicking the SET-button
...(in basic view, clock face) - (for example only when not used as back-button for a few seconds, to avoid changing it unwanted)
- Changing the 'monitor' in the 'standard' clock face, left above, by fast double-click CTRL-button
...Or being able to change 'monitor' data with an interval, x seconds. If it doesn't use much battery.
- A tap to the watch to light up the screen (after sundown) - if some sensor can notice - and /or some wrist movement - / adding a gyroscope to future models

Just some ideas.. Slight smile

UPDATE

- a reminder widget, beside the calendar

- generally - ability for app related widgets - though nice icons already used for the Messages 'widget'
