Instinct - 12.00 Public Release Candidate

Hello Instinct users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures! 

Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below. We look forward to your feedback!

12.00 Change Log Notes:

  • Version bump to 12.00.

For those of you interested, here is the full change log from 11.00 - 12.00:

  • Fixed InReach display verification.
  • Fixed issue where Recovery HR was displayed when there was no heart rate source.
  • Fixed rare issue where elevation would jump after starting an activity.
  • Improved the accuracy and reliability of elevation data during activities.

Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.

    Just a word of caution for those running the beta v11.76 and willing to "update" to v12.00 - my Instinct was reset (same as if I did a master reset or downgraded the sw) when I applied the v12 over my v11.76! Meaning I had to redo the connection to GCM, and the custom settings again. Well, having a fresh backup of the device storage may help with bringing some of the settings, but it is a hassle anyway, so you may prefere avoiding it, although I guess it can happen when the final v12 is eventually released officially, anyway.

    EDIT - my apologies, after 's post I verified the version on my Instinct and it was v11, so it turns out to be my own stupidity that caused it - by mistake I entered somehow inadvertently the rollback folder and uploaded the v11, instead of v12. So, in fact everyhting is all right. Once again apologies for the false alert

    I didn't have the problem.
    I had the 11.76 firmware just like you.

    I made a backup of the GARMIN folder in case of...

    Thanks, it was my mistake - see above, I edited my previous post. Thanks for the comment, I would not notice it without it.

    Anybody discovered any  new feature with this firmware version not mention in the changelog?

    Tras instalar la versión 12, el altímetro sigue sin precisión.

    Junto a una placa del instituto geográfico con una altitud, marcada en la placa de 646 metros, mi reloj marcaba 688.

    Y en la actividad de mountain bike junto a otra placa de altitud en un puerto de montaña una diferencia de unos 30 metros.

    How long before taking the elevation did you calibrate the altimeter? And how? Manually, with GPS or using the DEM method?

    Lo calibre mediante GPS, y lo usé para hacer una ruta en bicicleta de montaña, siendo en este caso las altitudes aproximadamente de 650 metros el reloj media entre 680 y 700 m

    Luego me acerqué a la placa de medición e hice la calibración manual para hacerla coincidir con la placa y desactivé la actualización automática durante la actividad,

    Mañana volveré a pasar por el mismo sitio de la placa a ver si quitando la medición automática durante actividad, el reloj reconoce la altitud misma, pero está claro que con la calibración GPS las mediciones son bastante erróneas, al menos en mi unidad

    hoy volví a pasar por la placa y volvía a medir mal; la razón fue que tenía activado la auto calibración fuera de actividad y al conectar con gps me cambiaba la calibración manual.

    Está claro que el problema es la medición por gps, deberían ajustar el software para que minimice las diferencias entre las altitudes reales y los márgenes de error del gps

    tampoco funciona bien si se desactiva la calibración automática tanto en actividad como fuera de actividad y se mete manualmente, pues tras meter a mano la calibración a 646,4 metros, a las 6 horas aproximadamente volví a pasar por el mismo punto y ahora medía 634 metros, 12 metros menos que la medida real habiéndo sido calibrada allí mismo 6 horas antes.

    funciona peor que antes
