Hr bug

Hey. There is 100% bug in hr monitor. When I choose hiking mode hr is on 90 bpm and it never goes higher, maybe when I stop. I did the same course in running mode and hr is the way it should be.

I have the same problem while strength training the heart rate never goes up above 100 even though I'm breathing very heavy and my heart rate is definitely not 100

  • I just tried both, a Hike activity and also a Strength activity with my Instinct, and in both cases I was able to get very quickly the HR reading far above 100 bpm, so it does not look like any limitation of the Activity profile, rather a problem with the fit of the watch, likely locking on your pace instead of the HR. Try adjusting the fit or use other advices from the document The Heart Rate Sensor on My Watch Is Not Accurate, but if you are one of those unlucky owners who cannot get a reliable reading from the Optical HRM, and need relevant data, you can always use a chest belt HRM, which works with electrical signals instead of using an optical sensor, hence it is more accurate.

  • Mine is not working ok. In hiking and tactical profile the hr reading is too low. In a few seconds when I stop the hr is going up. When I use running mode the hr is ok all the time. And I am wearing watch on the same spot one finger above bone.

  • When I use running mode the hr is ok all the time.

Do you mean using the running mode for hiking, or for running? As I wrote the OHRM may be locking on your pace, so if you test it while running with higher pace, you won't notice the difference as easily as at hiking.

I did a rather detailed test of all activity modes available on Instinct - riding an indoor bike at very stable high HR, verifying it also with an alternative HRM, and turning on diverse activity profiles - there was absolutly no difference in the HR reading, regardless of the activity profile selected. Hence I do not quite believe there are any differences in the HR detection in individual activity profiles. Rather than that, the differences in diverse disciplines come from different conditions during the concerned activities (pace, arm movements, blood pressure alternation, wrestband fit, temperature / peripheral vasoconstriction,...)

  • Yes I was using running mode for hiking. On the bike it is correct in running it is correct only hiking is a problem. Dont know why.

  • It does not make much sense - as I wrote the watch does measure the high HR also when in the Hike mode quite all right. Try the following test - turn on the Hike mode now (can be indoors), and try doing some intensive exercise to get your HR high, and observe the HR indicator on the watch. Do the exercise preferably without any intensive arm moving, and without jumping, to avoid misreading due to the HRM locking on that movement.

Another test that you could do, is going out on a hike, get to a steady pace / HR, and then switch couple of times between the Run and Hike modes, while trying to keep the same effort / pace / HR all the time. Save the activities and post the links to them here, or send them directly to the Customer Support, if you really find important differences between the two modes.
