Does your backlight stay on all the time?

I purchased a Garmin Instinct a few weeks ago and it's been working great. I just have one question though...Is the backlight supposed to always be illuminated at the minimum setting? My backlight is always on at the minimum setting. If I push a button, get a notification or something happens that would illuminate the backlight, it gets brighter (as bright as the percentage I have it set at) and then it dims after the timeout back to the minimum setting (which is 5%). Even if I power the watch off, the blank screen will be illuminated. Doesn't seem right to me but can't find a definitive answer. Thanks!

So, you turn the watch off and you close yourself in a dark room - and you still see the watch glowing?

That's not normal at all, I'd say...

Do not mistake the backlight for the natural contrast of the display. Instinct uses an e-ink-type of display, it does not need any backlight at all when iluminated. And in contrary to other displays, the more ambient light, the better it is readable. The display also does not consume any significant power when not changing.

Make sure you have dialed in your preffered settings in settings->system->backlight. I've enabled backlight only after sunset for buttons and not on notifications or gestures.

That is incorrect.

Instinct has a monochrome, sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).

Other than that, I agree with the rest of your post.
