Auto Zoom changes zoom factor to slowly

I'm not sure but my impression is that the behaviour of the Auto Zoom feature changed with OS version 10. (I have 10.10 on my instinct now.)

My issue with the behaviour is that it changes the zoom factor too slowly. I understand that it is desirable to have a low zoom factor (i.e. seeing much of the track) when I have not reached the starting point yet. This enables me to see the starting point and move towards it. But once I reach it, my Instinct changes the zoom factor only a few hundred metres into the track. That is much too late as during that time I cannot see small turns or when to turn exactly. In the example image I marked the rough spot where the Instinct switched the zoom factor. While this specific track was not hard to follow and I did not actually need the navigation, this might be very different in other cases.

In another example I could not even tell why the auto zoom switched to a low zoom factor. But it resulted in this particular track, leading zig zag through short streets, not being usable without manually adjusting the zoom factor. With the zoom factor the Instinct chose all I could see was a straight line.

I know that an easy way out would be to toggle off the auto zoom altogether and choose an appropriate zoom factor. But generally I always liked the auto zoom feature and would like to see it work properly again.

Has anyone seen this behaviour, too? Any adice?
