"On course" alerts

"On course" alerts when following a gpx-file during activity constantly bothers me!

I've searched the forums and found a couple of posts on this issue, but none of them seems to have a solution.

I've turned the "Off course" alerts off (In Settings > Navigation > Alerts), but it seems that the option to turn off "On course" alerts does not exist.

Does anybody have a fix for this issue? I would like to turn these alerts completely off.

Currently on software version 10.00.

  • Bump..

If anybody from Garmin is reading this, please add the choice to turn off these annoying "On course" alerts.

  • For me it was really annoying but it got much better after a software update. Before that, I used to enable "Do not disturb" mode. This switches off the sound alerts (except for the autolap) however the screen still displays the silent alert, hiding some usefull datafields.

I agree that the best solution would be to simply add the possibility to disable these alerts as well as the "turn by turn" feature...

  • The "Do not disturb" mode seems like the only alternative to stop the "On course" sound alerts. Thanks for the tip.

The phone alerts are a useful feature, so I would rather not turn these off durnig an activity, but I guess its the only way at the moment..

  • I just completed a 7.5km hike route and I only got the "on course alert" once and that because I went off course and then back on course. So I think maybe the .gpx file you follow is not accurate enough, or you get off course and then on course just as I did.

  • Thanks for the reply, good to hear that you are not bothered by these alerts.

You are correct, the problem is most noticeable when I am hiking and get off course. Or when I am hiking in dense forests, the watch gives me an "on course" alert every time it reconnects with GPS. This can be several times during just short hikes or other activities.

I assume an option to disable these alerts would not be an issue for you, but it would be a huge benefit to me.

If Garmin would add this option, the issue would be completely resolved, no matter what is causing them to appear.

I will continue to request this option in the software update threads.

  • Well said. Would be good to have the option to disable it. Have you tried other gps settings to improve accuracy? I have gps &gallileo and track every second recording and I'm pretty happy with the accuracy. I live in Europe.

  • I also live in Europe, and I have the gps+galileo enabled for all of my outdoor activities. I have the "smart" recording enabled, but i will try the "track every second"-setting from now on. Thanks for the tip!

I guess most gps-devices struggle in dense forests etc., but I dont need the watch telling me this every minute. Otherwise I am generally quite happy with the accuracy of the tracking when recording activities.
