Both me and my husband face battery life issues after the crash. His Fenix Cronos said a few seconds after connecting with charger: 100% . My device Instinct draines out a lot quicker than usual with the same usage

Battery life after the outage

  • as surprised to see it max out at 9 hours
consumed 1 bar out of 5 of the battery indicator...

Neither of it tells the true battery life. The battery indicator is not necessarily linear. The only way to measure the battery life time, is charging it fully (and not just to four bars, since it can also mean charge of over 80%) over night, and then letting it run until it shuts down (and not just until it starts showing one bar). It may be easily possible that the watch can still run for several hours with just a single bar on the indicator.

  • My box says 16 hours, without "up to" :D But you make me wonder, I think I also had Glonass activated besides GPS. What's you take on Ultratac? Never had to try it, but looks like I will need... Thanks.

  • Actually when I got low battery notification and 0 bars it went on for about a good hour, just switching off 30 meters before getting back to my car :D

Hike was FANTASTIC. Grand Canyon. Just mind blowing. Gotta go back and do a rim to rim to rim R2R2R run.

  • Yep from shutdown, overnight charge to shutdown again with just a smartwatch use 3days only..

Trying again with 9.97 even with BT off and after a day already lost one bar..crazy

FW can be a culprit for sure since this change in battery lifewlife quite sudden..Checked with brother whos not reporting any issues and he's still on 4.33Thinking I am pretty sure with version 6.x or 7.x I had no issues and updated to 9.20 around the outage.

Is there a way to download older revisions?

  • Checked with brother whos not reporting any issues and he's still on 4.33

v4.33 is the version of the current Garmin Connect Mobile application. There never was a v4.33 of Garmin Instinct firmware, only 4.00 and then the 4.51 (see the changelog), so your brother certainly does not have an Instinct with the v4.33 firmware. He needs to check the version on the watch (Menu » Settings » About), and not on the phone.

If you suspect the firmware, try downgrading to an older firmware (the downgrade files were included in all beta installation packages, so if you have an older beta package, the fall-back firmware can be found there). If the downgrading confirms your suspiction, report the issue to [email protected]

  • Yep you are right, he'd sent me app version instead of FW version..Face palm

As of downgrade I was looking for downgrade from 9.20, not from the beta packages to previous betas, but seems like HW issue after all, so I guess warranty claim is inevitable..Frowning2

That's what the beta packages offer - each of them contains the preceding stable public release installation file, as a fallback in case of troubles. It can be used from any other puclic release as well. And since the release versions are distributed through Garmin Express only (not through downloadable packages), using the fallback file from a beta installation pack is the only option I am aware of, for installing an older firmware.
