Why am I always getting a storm alert?

I live in the Mojave desert so we barely get any precipitation. Everytime I'm out hiking I always get a storm alert when clearly it's not going to rain. I also notice this when I use my Instinct everywhere else when I'm out of state. I'm always getting storm alerts when there is no oncoming storm even close to the vicinity that I'm in.

  • if it is not so, try to make settings-sensors and accessories-barometer-watch mode-auto. check that if storm alert is 4mb3hr as default. maybe sensitivity is higher than that of default

  • Are you always getting the storm alert after an activity? Then it is probably due to the auto-calibration of the barometer at the beginning of your activity. If the calibrated pressure value is ~4mb lower than the pre-calibrated value then you will get an alert after some time (not immediately because of the computation method of the alert). Next time you get a storm alert, just look at the barometer graph and check if there is a big jump at the beginning/end of your activity. I have disabled the storm alert because of this non-sense behavior which is purely a software issue… It would be very easy and more meaningful to recalibrate the whole graph and not only the current value.

There are more complicated reasons causing a barometer drift (wrong estimation of your elevation changes, temperature changes, etc.) but in my experience the drift is rarely big enough to cause a storm alert.
