I think it should be possible, though personally I did not try it yet. However, You'll have to avoid connecting to Garmin Express, since it would be updated automatically again.
Let us know whether it worked, and whether you see any improvement in the GPS behaviour after the downgrade. You can comment also in this thread, if you experience GPS issues with the latest firmware versions.
