Wrist hr monitor useless

Hey. I am pissed of. Come on. Every time I am hiking or running wrist hrm is not showing correct bpm. I tried left arm, right arm, inside wrist, outside wrist. Nothing. I am hiking with 170bpm and instinct showing me 56bpm. I thin it is time to buy a chest strap hrm.

  • 170bpm while hiking?!? Are you sure about that?

  • I'm sure you have already reviewed the HR best practices, but just in case... (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?productID=621802&tab=topics&textPage=1&topicTag=region_heartratesensors).

When I first starting using my Instinct, I was curious about the HR accuracy.  So on a few of my runs I compared the Instinct HR profile to a Garmin HRM Dual strap (I used my old watch to track the HR Strap). Both devices were very close throughout the run.  The Instinct had more variability (~3-5bpm) than the strap, but with the same profile.

The times that the Instinct has given me issues is during colder weather (reads low) and during mountain biking activities.  The weather is a physiological issue (reduced blood flow near the skin surface) and mountain biking a mechanical issue of the watch/skin interface moving around during the jarring events of the ride.

  •   You have a Garmin instinct watch! He cannot measure your pulse correctly. But he can measure the pulse of a tree. Instead of counting the altimeter incorrectly, it can measure the pulse at a hill or cliff! Sorry for my humor. But if you have firmware 7.20 or newer beta at the moment, this calculator will not measure your heart rate normally, regardless of your physique.
