Instinct MTB route navigation

Hi all,

I’m almost convinced the instinct is the watch for me but I just want to double check the navigation functions. My goal is that when I go mountain biking I can open up the trails on the watch to get me to the head of them. A couple of questions:

- Firstly, would the watch be suitable for finding preloaded trails on a hill to help navigate to their heads? Or am I needing a different watch, is this even helpful?

- Can multiple tracks be open at once? Say multiple tracks at one junction, can you see the name of each track?

- How many tracks can be saved at once on the watch. The typical hubs for me may have 5-10 tracks, can these all be stored at once?

- Does anyone use Trailforks track files and use them on the watch?

Thank you!

  • I am also Looking into the Instinct, I am a big mountain biker and also go hiking with my family. How do you run trail forks with this watch? I have never used a Garmin and My Samsung s2 is great as a smartwatch just not as an active sports smartwatch and I am scared it's going to break one of these days. I also have a google pixel 5g phone so interested on the pair with that.

  • The Instinct doesn't connect directly to Trail Forks like the fenix or Edge devices.  But to use the trails on the Instinct, all you have to do is download the GPX file(s) of the trail(s) you like to your computer.  Then connect your Instinct to your computer and copy the GPX files to the Garmin/Newfiles folder on the Instinct.  The trail files will then be available for Navigation during an MTB ride.  There are other methods to get the GPX files to your watch by Garmin Explore or Garmin Connect (and many others).  Poke around this forum and you'll find many other topics describing this techniques.
