When you go to Settings > System > Backlight on your Instinct watch, the menu has a variety of options. IE: if you press any button on your watch, it will turn your backlight on or…

When you go to Settings > System > Backlight on your Instinct watch, the menu has a variety of options. IE: if you press any button on your watch, it will turn your backlight on or if you turn on the Gesture feature, when you put your watch in front of you and rotate it towards you, it will turn on too.

Unless you are using the gesture feature though, you will still need to manually press the top left CNRL button to turn on your backlight.
