Why am I receiving random numbered alerts during course navigation?

  1. I am creating my routes in Caltopo and importing the .gpx files on Garmin Explore to sync the routes to my Instinct. I select "Do Course" in Navigation and begin tracking. As I hike along the route I receive alerts for seemingly random numbers, they've read anywhere between 10-75 and provide no additional info. The time between alerts also seems completely random, ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. I've checked both the Navigation Settings and Navigate Settings and no alerts are set for either. Anybody have an explanation for these alerts and how to configure/disable them?? Cheers.
  • Hard to tell without seeing it - Instinct can make plenty of alerts, including alerts for cadence, pace, HR, and others. It could be perhaps also the deviation from the planned route. It would be helpfull if you could make a screenshot of the screen with the alert and post it here.

  • You might also open up the gpx file (any text editor) and make sure Caltopo is not adding in course alerts (such as turns).  Possibly they are not properly formatted for the watch and have data in them (such as "turn left" so the watch is not giving any other info.  I often find with some course producing software (garmin is bad) that I get constant turn warnings when it is only a curve in a trail.
