Turn by turn navigation

Certainly, I was using turn by turn navigation conveniently when I ride a bicycle with version 5.70.

But from a certain time, the turn by turn navigation was disenabled.

Now, I can see only the distance to the goal with navigation.

Is there any option to use turn by turn navigation?

  • TBT function works after loading the course via Garmin connect, but does not work after loading via Garmin Explore. For now that's enough for me.

  • ,

The course was created from an activity months ago with GC (web) and downloaded to the watch via GC Android 4.29 a couple days ago.

I have given up on Explore.  I use Basecamp to maintain tracks/waypoints and it ability to go between the Instinct and my GPSMap 64.  Explore is frankly a mess.

  • Anyone can confirm that this function doesn't work -> on previous firmwares if I navigate and went outside of a course there is an arrow and distance to nearest point on a course. I don't see this anymore Disappointed. Tbt works for me, but this distance stopped on latest beta and official fw. Disappointed

Edit: it seems to be working for now :). Probably my mistake.

  • A new update to the Connect Mobile APP was released that resolves this issue for the Instinct watch.

  • So, I have run some tests. Instinct v4.60, Connect v4.29, Explore v2.8.3. My apps are in Italian, sometime the english translation might be a bit off.

Connect works. I have tried both the App (Android) and the Website. Website: create route -> Personalized -> "Follow streets" // "Free hands". Tried both and both works. App: not so useful, as I cannot draw the route "free hands" (the whole point of navigation, for me, is hiking off-road in the mountains, where there are no streets on google maps). Here the screenshots. Distance (i.e. 81) is to the next waypoint. In the second picture, I have reached a waypoint and the watch tells me the direction where I have to turn.

Explore for me it's the most important app for navigation, as I have offline maps + the possibility of importing .gpx file. It does not work. First, I don't have the turn-by-turn navigation (the arrows) but just the distance to the next waypoint (i.e. 40). Second, when I'm close to a waypoint (like 18 meters, see the second picture), the watch tells me that, but - again - there's no arrow in the little circle. Note that also in this case I have tried both the app and the website, and I have created both a route and a breacrumb / track. Tried separately all these options, and I always get this behavior. SO THIS IS AN EXPLORE ISSUE, PLEASE GARMIN FIX IT.

Can someone with the beta 4.91 try to create a route with Explore and see if he/she gets the same behavior?

  • I have checked the Turn-by-turn navigation on my environment.
Unfortunately, the functionality didn't work in any case on my cycling activities.

I created the course on Garmin Connect App and download the course into my Instinct.
And I used the navigation with the course, I just found the direction to the destination.
Next, I created the course on Garmin Connect on the Web page, but the result was the same as the App.

    My environments are:
     - Firmware version: 6.60 (Japanese)
     - Garmin Connect App (Android version) : 4.29
     - Garmin Connect (Web)

  • Please explain - is TBT dependent on some mobile app, or it should work just with a downloaded course? I downgraded to 5.70, I have settings recommended here, but I never see anything other than this:

    No arrow, just chess flag.

    What is wrong?

I am sorry you are having an issue with the Explore APP. For an issue with turn by turn navigation using the Explore APP to add a course, please post in the Apps & Software section of our forums. We have topics broken down since there are specific moderators working within each forum thread so we can get an issue resolved as quickly as possible. Please note, there is a Garmin Explore iOS and Garmin Explore Android specific threads.
