Daily steps not right in Garmin Connect

I've had the Garmin Instinct for over a year now and never had any problems.

This week however, I noticed that my daily steps counter in Garmin Connect does not show the amount that my Instinct counted.

My 'Current goal streak' showed 0 all week, although on my Instinct, I've met my daily goal 9 days in a row (that would be my new record streak too).

Garmin connect shows that I haven't met my goal from Sunday till Wednesday, but on my Instinct all goal bars are black instead of grey as a proof that my daily goals have been met.

And in Connect my daily goal is also going up every day, which also proofs that I've met my goals (if not, the goal for next day is automatically lowered a bit).

This afternoon, the problem was still there when I synced after I came home from my bike ride. Tonight, as I've (again) met my daily steps goal, I synced again and for the first time this week, Connect shows the right amount of steps. But the previous days are still wrong. Is there any way to adjust/correct the previous days (and thus break my longest streak)?

Update: same goes for the daily floors climbed goals (but that is less important for me).

I noticed that the Steps graph stopped at 15:15-15:30. Even if no steps were taken after that time (which isn't true), the graph should still show a flat line until the end of day at the level that was reached at 15:30.

Is it possible to see the exact amount of steps from previous days on the Instinct itself?

  • It looks like you did not sync the watch with the phone. Either re-connect the phone, or sync over the USB cable and Garmin Express on your computer.

I don't use the app on the phone, I sync my Instinct by connecting ti with the cable to my laptop.

I found out that when I connect it, it only syncs the activities, but not the monitor (steps), nor the sleep.

It works by manually uploading the FIT-files from the 'monitor' and 'sleep' directories.

I wonder why this happens? These items were synced automatically for more than a year.

Maybe it will work again when I do a factory reset? But I don't like to lose all my settings and have to reinstall them.

  • You can save current settings (//GARMIN/Settings/Settings.fit) and restore them later. You could also try deleting fit files from //GARMIN/Activity to make some free space - the lack of space perhaps can pose a problem during a sync, but seeing you can transfer the data manually, it is not too likely to be a problem, altough during a sync some additional space may be needed for some temporary data, so it is worth a try anyway.

  • You can also try just rebooting the watch, or performing a soft reset, before doing the master reset (if you did not try it yet)
