Activity -> Race Previous?

New Garmin Instinct owner - Firmware v6.51 update.

Major purchase decision feature is the "Race Previous Activity" option. Fairly certain using feature correctly but noticing some unexpected, confusing results.Specifically, occasionally the Main active tracking screen will show minutes ahead at onset. Clearly this would seem incorrect.

Leads to a few questions;

Any known issues?
Logic behind the "Comparison" - GPS, other method?
And wondering, what happens if the Target is completely different from Current Activity?
Or the correct Target is traveled in reverse?
Can the raw data be reviewed somewhere (App, PC)?

You can view the activity on Garmin Connect Web. You can also export it from there in a number of different file formats that can be reviewed with external tools (see the export options under the cogwheel in the upper right corner of the activity screen).

Thanks for the reply.

Guess I was thinking about raw data as Instinct readings used to calculate Watch/Connect visible stats. Numbers that might be checked to perhaps explain observed behavior, or diagnose possible errors, in the Activity -> Race Previous feature. The Walking Activity of interest <.csv> file is duplicate of Connect presented info and other <.fit> files etc seem proprietary or map based. And AFAIK there doesn't appear to be anything presented (or saved) for a specific "Race" comparison.

You can export both activities (the current and the previous ones) for example in the TCX format, and compare the coordinates and distances

Thanks again. The <.tcx> format appears to be XML where extracting embedded actual useful data, and the needed comparison, a little more difficult/time consuming than hoped. At this point, fairly convinced there is some sort of issue with the "Race Previous Activity" that should fall to Garmin to address. Will report to technical support.

I'm having the same problem with new Instinct bought only last month. When I race (run) a previous activity from the device history it shows time 0:00 until I press start. When I press start it immediately shows me 0:25 ahead. I run the route and according to the VP I was always ahead and finished 1:52 ahead of the previous time but when stop it said i'd 2:40 behind - which was correct, I ran much slower than the activity I was racing against even though it said I was always ahead. It's done this twice now with different run history activities. I've checked the map and I'm starting from the same place. GPS is OK before the run starts. Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing from settings?
