Connection to Tempe Sensor not reliable

Hello,

i try to use my instinct with an Tempe Sensor, but the connection ist not reliable. There is no constant connection, even if the sensor is only inches away from the watch. Starting the temperature widget, everytime it shows Temp. Not Connected. Although the pairing takes a very long time so at the moment using the Tempe sensor with my instinct is useless.

I use a Tempe Sensor  with an Garmin Etrex 30 too and there i have no such problems. There both always constant connected and pairing process is very fast compared to paring with my instinct (I know that the tempe sensor sends only data in intervals but with the instinct i have to wait minutes).

I think that the Implementationon is not as good as with other garmin Products. For me that is very sad because since the dropping of Ant+ support on Android 9+ Phones that was a reason to buy the instinct watch to monitor the temperature.

Maybe you could improve this with an software update.

I think it behaves like that to save battery power. If you start an activity the Tempe will connect (can still take a minute or two) and stay connected for the duration of the activity. But when not in an activity it disconnects when you move away from the temperature widget page.

  • lightbulbjim is right. There is only a connection during activities with the instinct.

Thanks for your answers. Yes youre right, it tried it. Only with running activities there is a constant connection.  Perfect for me would be an option to activate the sensor when i like to use the sensor for some time without an running activity. For example i often fix the tempe sensor on my tent to know if i should stay in my sleeping bag:-)  So when i watch at night i don't want to connect the sensor first to watch the temperature i just want to see it in the widget. Hope that someone from Garmin read this and find sense in this.

  • I think it is the same with all Garmin watches. I had Fenix 3, Fenix 5x and now I have Fenix 6x Pro. Tempe is the same with all. It takes around 60 - 90 seconds to connect when I start the activity and watch takes readings from it around such intervals. It's probably to save power keeping the ANT+ radio sleeping and waking up to get a reading and let it sleep again. Widget takes the first reading around the same time. So I just open the widget and wait fot it to get its reading. I don't think Garmin will decrease this interval after so many years with this method and so many complaints about it. Actually it's no problem to take readings even in 2 minute intervals during activities. But widget should be able to hava some privilage to get reading from it as fast as possible.

so I have a tempe, and a 945 i put it on the widget to see temp and it always says not connected. I am still doing some more testing.

  • You can anytime go to settings and start a connection to tempe sensor saved there. But anyway I agree there are sometimes issues with connection to tempe in comparison to footpod for example. When I start an activity and footpod is near me it connects in a few seconds but for tempe I have to wait about 30 seconds and even more till I get to sensor options and force connect to it. Rare even force connection fails and I have to press second time for the connection. So I think its a Instinct problem with connecting to it

  • I think I found a trick to use te tempe more efificently on instict watch...

    here it goes.

I added a new panel on my runnig activitity, and selected temperature  big on screen for this panel. Run is my first favorite activity.

when i want to heave a temperature reading, I simply hit the GPS buton and hit run as if I would start to run, then I switch to te temp panel and Bingo! it s there

right after that,  the temp widgtet is usually conected and shows min and max
