Intensity Minutes and swimming

I know this has cropped up before and in other forums (including Fenix 5) but swimming does seem to be a problem in relation to Garmin Connect and the Instinct.

In my experience, swims do not contribute to intensity minutes and there are no personal records. Anyone got any insights to this?

  • It is correct. The activity minutes are detected/calculated according to the heart rate, and Instinct does not detect the HR under water during a swim, hence no activity minutes can be added during such activity. You would have to wear a HRM belt for that purpose.

  • ... and as for personal records - it is correct there are no personal records for Open Water Swimming, but there is an entire tab for Pool Swim records (time of diverse distances). For open water swim it would give little sence due to the widely variable conditions like currents, wind, waves. I would still appreciate at tleast the "Farthest" personal record in Open Water Swimming, similar to the one in Running or Cycling, though I can live without it.
