Auto Cal on Elevation and Barometer not working

The Auto Cal function for the GPS and Elevation doesn't function properly. GARMIN Explore GPS elevation for my home is ~5300ft and work is at ~5250ft.  During a ski trip to the mountains ~11000ft I calibrated my elevation and barometric pressure. I did not recalibrate when returning to my house. It has now been two days below 5500ft, but my elevation is still being stated by my Instinct on the order of 6749ft (current GPS explore 5233ft). I understand that calibrating at the lower elevation should be expected, but isnt that the point of the auto cal?

I would expect the my Instinct to ping GPS and correct for elevation occasionally. Is this not the case?

Well, GPS is active only during some outdoors activities, so it would be possible only then, and perhaps Instinct really does it, but still I think the altitude auto-calibration needs some rework from Garmin. For example I run regularly along the sea cost, or swim in the sea, but still the watch often shows unrealistic non-zero altitudes, despite the GPS active, and auto-calibration enabled. I do not care too much, since I use the altitude correction in GC, but it would be certainly desirable if the function worked much better than it currently does. Perhaps upgrading the firmware to the available beta version 6.04 helps, but I cannot confirm it, since I did not try it yet.
