The weather temperature on my Garmin instinct is over 10 degrees different from my iPhone. Why is this happening?

  • The reason is likely a different provider of the data. The time of the last data update may play also a role. However, I think that the more important question than why it is different than on your iPhone, would be whether the temperature on your Garmin Instinct was different than the reality, and how much. Assuming from the photo that you are in Margate, UK (unless it is Margate in SAR, or elsewhere), weather reports for the morning of the Dec 30th show the temperature of around 5°C. If that's correct, your Garmin Instinct seems to be much closer to the reality than the iPhone.

Margate Australia. But if it’s meant to gain the information from my phone they should be the same?

  • Ya know, my Instinct does this from time to time as well.  I notice it most when at home where it can diverge from the actual temp by up to 10 degrees.  Elsewhere when traveling it is right on the money.

  • But if it’s meant to gain the information from my phone they should be the same?

It gets the information through your phone from a weather data provider, which has it from a local weather station. The data does not come from your phone.

  • BTW, make sure that you already used the GPS on the watch for an outdoor activity, so that it knows where you actually are. If you did not turn GPS on yet, since you got the watch, it may be set to a different location, and may get the weather data from a wrong meteo station.

  • It's always seemed odd to me that they do that rather than getting the info from the phone.

I'm trying to think of a reason why your phone wouldn't be in the same vicinity as your watch. Just seems like it'd be easier to use the phone OS API to get that and send it to the phone.

Naturally, I'm assuming that information is available via the API.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have the same problem, an it is annoying. My phone says the temp outside is -7 degrees and the watch says it is -21. This is unacceptable and the watch is going back unless garmin pays attention and fix this small but annoying problem.

I hope Garmin sees this, I know what the issue in the weather is, for some reason if you set the units to degree C in the watch, the watch assumes your phone is showing degree F therefore for the now temperature it converts and shows something completely wrong. For example my current Temp is -7 degree C and my watch is showing -21 degree C, when you convert -7 degrees F to C is exactly -21 degrees. The issue is only with the now weather. If you want a quick fix of the now temperature set your units to degrees F in your watch if your phone is displaying degree C. Like I said this is an issue with the now temperature, the problem is that your forecast will be in degrees F because that part of the software is correct. Now there is a second issue as to what app is the watch accessing, I have two apps and wheat access the native iPhone app it works but when it goes into the weather network that is when I see this issue. This is what I have found so far, I will keep testing and update if I note more irregularities.
