How do I add step count as an activity field?

I used my brand new spiffy Instinct for the first time today on a 10km walk, and it was great. I especially like the physical controls, with no touch UI that rain and sweat messes up, or vibration and movement fudging taps on a touchscreen :-)

However - and I'm sorry if I'm missing something - but I cannot work out how to change the 'Paces' field in the Walking activity, to a step count. I'm really quite unconcerned by paces while walking, but I am keen to know what my step count is for that activity.

TIA for your help, and Merry Christmas to all!

I haven't been able to figure this out on my Instinct either. I don't think you can add that data field to an activity. Seems like a major swing and miss on Garmin's part.

  • No, you cannot see the number of steps of the current activity, but you can see the total steps done in the day, even during the activity (press the BACK button, check the Steps widget, and then press BACK again to come back to the activity. Or just let it on the steps widget, if you do not care about the activity screen). Not ideal, but not too bad - it is enough to remember the starting number.

  • I also miss this feature or activity. Even cheaper models can do it. It's a shame and nothing complicated for Garmin engineers.

It is not necessary to shame anyone. You better ask them politely. If they have enough of requests, they will certainly add it on their todo list. Where is no demand, there is no offer.

  • I'm not ashamed of anyone. But if the number of steps is not  in walking mode, it's a little sad. Walking counts on steps ... in other models it goes without saying. I'm so sorry. I can't contact Garmin engineers. If you can, please pass on the information.

  • That's fine, asking for a missing feature is nothing incorrect. It is perfectly legit. But certain decency should be kept, without resorting to invectives like "it is a shame", etc. You never know what reason there are, or whether they are aware of the demand at all.

If you have a feature request or an idea, just use the standard channel available to everyone (see below), but I recommend using a polite tone, if you want to be heard, without telling "it must be easy", and similar claims.

  • There is nothing polite about shame. it is a sigh that instinct cannot do the basic thing. if you can't or don't want to help, don't respond. everyone can teach, help no....

  • if you can't or don't want to help

I already answered the original question clearly in my first post. And now I am trying to help you again, by telling you that if you want a new feature added, you should submit your reuqest to Garmin in a polite way. However, seeing your posts, I am afraid you still do not understand what the "polite way" means.

  • English is not my native language, moreover I have asked you if you can write to them. Writing in support of bad English is not an appropriate professional thing. Maybe you are the one who didn't understand me .... I'm not rude, but I don't speak English well. If you were my spoken language, it might also sound rude.

  • Problém není v tvé angličtině, ale v tónu, který voliš. Myslel jsem tím, že jim klidně o tuto funkci můžeš napsat, ale vyvarovat se výrazů, jako že je to ostuda, že to ještě není apod. Toť vše.
