Instinct apnea

Hi, I have an issue I'd like to find a workaround.
I practice free diving (in pool) twice a week, but my instinct doesn't allow me to record it as such. So I decided to create a new activity based on swimming in a pool (sorry my watch is in french, I don't know how it's called on english watches). So now I'm able to get times from my different dives

Now I'd like to switch that activity from "swimming" to "apnea" on connect.garmin.com. th isuue is, once I do that, all my times are removed from the data :
Those fields are not editable when mofifying the activity so I can not put back my times.

How can I go about this ?

Thank you !

  • For the past activities you could export them, edit and then reimport. For new activites, add apnea directly on the Instinct: press GPS (right upper button) » Menu (long press left middle button) » up (short press left middle button) » enter Settings with the GPS button » enter Activities & Apps » up » confirm Add » confirm Copy Activity » select Pool Swim » enter the new name Apnée

In this way the activity already should sync as Apnée while having the Pool Swim format

  • Thanks, How can I edit them once exported  ? which editig software should I use  ?
It seems like with your suggestion, the activity would be named "Apnée" but still recorded as swimming right  ?

  • How can I edit them once exported

Depends on the format you chose. If it is in the "original" format (a zipped FIT file), google up tools for editing FIT files. Same for the other formats. The simplest is probably the CSV file that you can edit either by any simple text editor like Notepad, or in Excel, OpenOffice, or similar

the activity would be named "Apnée" but still recorded as swimming right  ?

Hm, I just tested it, and the activity passes over to GC just in the same way as any other standard Pool Swim. Not even the name is transferred. So there does not seem to be any advantage in creating the Apnée activity from a Pool Swim, over selecting directly the Pool Swim instead. It would be probably the best, simply recording your DYN/DNF apnea trainings as Pool Swim, and then only renaming them in GC Web. You can the also filter the activities by the name.

  • BTW, you can change the type of the activity from swimming to apnea also directly in Garmin Connect. Open the activity, and top left just above the activity name, you can change the activity type.

However, I am not sure whether you will really want to do it, because the data structure for apnea is the same as for diving, so it may not fit your needs. It looks more like a dive log.

Another solution, would be keeping the apnea pool sessions in the swimming category, and to avoid the need to renaming them, you can create Workouts - for example DYN, DNF, STA, or just generally Apnée if you prefer. Then you send it to the watch, and when you start your training, you enter the activity menu, and start the respective workout. The saved session will be automatically named with the name of the selected workout. It means, you won't need to rename the activities, and you can also use the search box in GC Web to filter the apnea sessions.

sorry i'm new user and i did not know how can i install apnea app to my watch. :( if it is possible can you explain it ?

  • The thread is not about installing any app. You cannot install any apps on the Instinct. It is merely about creating an Apnea activity that you can use for your trainings, or freedive sessions. Just read the above messages, all is written there.

ok thank you for your help. i just need app or activity for diving :(

  • As I wrote, Instinct does not support any app instalation, but you can add a diving or a freediving activity in the way described above.
