Just purchased an Instinct. I guess I may have incorrectly assumed that the watch would be able to notify/alert the user when a waypoint/course marker/POI/whatever the hell Garmin chooses to call it in that particular app or software.
Can the Instinct employ ANY kind of proximity alert/waypoint detection/notification whatsoever? I’m not talking about creating them on the spot DURING an activity while physically ON the trail.
I’m talking about creating a navigable route IN ADVANCE of a trail that I’ve never set foot on that has multiple unmarked intersections that notifies me when I’m approaching an intersection or a defined location.
I’ve used both Explore and Connect. Explore allows you to drop waypoints on the garbage satellite maps it provides. Connect satellite maps are better and it let’s you add “course markers” (because more names for the same thing is always helpful) but neither the app nor the watch itself seems able to set notifications/proximity alerts to waypoints/course markers that you create in advance.
is this really not possible on the Instinct?
This is my first Garmin since I bought a Forerunner ages ago, and I have to say I am less than impressed.
is it REALLY that hard to get a watch such as this to notify me when I’m approaching a pre-set, pre-defined location? It can tell me when I’m “off course” but it can’t tell me when I’ve reached a specific location?
perhaps the software isn’t syncing the course markers or waypoints the way it’s supposed to. Or perhaps Garmin isn’t being clear enough within the app to state that this particular function won’t sync from connect to this specific watch. But it seems like a VERY basic function that should be available on this watch.
If someone has been able to achieve this function, please do let me know. I ride a ton of unmarked single track and I was really looking forward to being able to create courses in advance when I’m riding in unfamiliar deserts and canyons etc.
