Bug when following a course?

The issue is that if you define a course, even of only two points, and you try to follow it ("do course") the watch heads you to the ending waypoint, not to the first of the route. Even if you are close to the first point and far from the ending waypoint.

In general I guess the the watch is trying to take you as soon as possible to the course, but the desired behavior is to go to the start.

This can be a problem for routes with few points, like courses for boat regattas, where you can even be sailing in the middle of the route, but you want to head to the start buoy when you press "do course".

Is this a bug, or am I misconfiguring anything?

Thanks, J

  • Don’t see it as a bug just doesn’t fit the use case you are looking at.  For runs, hikes etc, when you set up a course, it is very possible that you will not start your activity exactly at the course start (trail head is a different location for example).  You do not want to be directed over or back to the course start, just “join” the course when you are on it.  In your case perhaps you need to add a start waypoint before the actual start of the race - essentially a throw away point.  Might work.

  • Thanks.

    Maybe that's the behavior but see this course with three points (x = my position)

          North

                         C

                          |
              x          |
                          |
    A ------------> B

    The watch heads me to 90 degrees (ie. join the route after B). I add my current position to the course so I expect it detects I'm IN the route and heads me to A, but unfortunately it heads me to 90 degrees.
