Battery is disappointing - 1 week only

Hello,

I've received itexactly 1 week ago and then fully charged on May 21st. It was upgraded to latest firmware version and also restarted 2 times.

Now I do have 1 of 5 lines - whatever it means something between 1 and 20% - another annoying 'feature'. Probably it will last 1 fully week.

In the latest 6 days I did following with GPS enabled:

- running 2hrs, bike like 4 hrs and walk 30min.

For a watch advertised like 2 weeks I'm pretty disappointed.

If the trends will continue it will goes back to Amazon :( as much I like the simplicity of it.

  • The device advertises 14 days in smartwatch mode (without GPS) and only 16 hours in GPS mode.

You've used 6.5 hours on GPS which should use up (6.5 / 16) = 40.6%, as well as 6 days in smartwatch mode which should use up (6 / 14) = 42.9%. So if it works exactly as advertised, you should be left with roughly 16.5%. With 1 bar left, I'd say it's working as well as you could expect given the GPS usage. It's certainly far better than the battery life I'm getting out of mine.

I share your frustration with the imprecise battery level that lacks a percentage value, but what you are seeing is normal for this device.

  • Scott's calculation matches my experience with over 5 months of usage.  I get 14-16 "units" out each full charge, where a unit = 1 full day or 1 hour of an activity with GPS.  I'm very happy with the battery performance as it meets the advertised guidelines and is better than I would hope to find in any other device with a similar feature/price profile.  I still haven't tested the max GPS time on a full charge, but I would hope to get 12-14 hours.

  • OK, thanks for the calculation.

I wonder if there is a battery alert at 10% or 5% because yesterday I did another walk of 1hr and 30min and then the battery was empty - no lines. I had to recharge it.

PS: did the latest firmware version 4.0.0 decreased the battery life?

  • You should get an alert when the last line goes away, or at least my Instinct does that. I measured 1:20 minutes of GPS activity from that moment to the watch turning off (only time it did happen to me, I had no time to charge it before).

  • My battery has seemed worse since the 4.0.0 upgrade, but I have to admit I have not measured accurately enough to say for sure.

In order to preserve long term battery life, I try to avoid extremes so I charge it when it gets down to 2 bars (or has been at 3 bars for a while) and try to stop it at 5 bars but before a full charge (so I'm adding around 40% at a time). I need to do this every day or two depending on GPS usage. While I think this is good for the battery long term, it makes it difficult to accurately gauge how much power I have consumed on a given charge. Perhaps I'll do a full charge and let it run down to 1 bar to get a better idea of my battery life.
