Stair Stepper - Not counting the number of steps

Hey guys,

I've been reading around the web/forums and I'm still a bit puzzled by it, here is the scenario I find myself:

Mostly I do weight training, and I usually start my cardio session with a 40-50 min stair stepper session - here is the issue: I usually hit somewhere between 4/5k steps (not to mention the number of floors, METs, etc.) - but the watch doesn't register it.

From what I could gather by looking around the web, the watch can either calculate your steps using GPS/location or by the natural hand/arm movement we do when walking, which brings me to my two questions:

1. How (if its even possible) do I force my Instict to calculate/add the steps from the stair stepper to my daily step count?
2. Is it possible to edit the activity (if so, how) to set the steps? I tried messing around, with no success.

I get that the movement of the arm is important for the step calculation, but since I usually do stairs for a long time, with high intensity, I have to hold on to the rails.

Is there any workaround for this?

Thanks in advance!
