Indicator in Navigation mode not working properly

What is the little indicator (arrow) in the top right corner supposed to show, when navigating?

> Where north is?
> In which direction to go?
> Direction of trailend?

For me this indicator seems to be moving in a completely arbitrary manner since I have the watch.
Hence I have no idea what it all about and it seems either like a bug or hardware defect to me.
Compass is calibrated and usually pointing in the right direction, when in ABC mode.

SW Version: 2.60.

I always thought that arrow was the direction to the start of the trail. I would like clarification as well.

Correct, the arrow will point to the start of the navigation path (Course, past activity, etc.) and after that is reached, it will point to the next navigational point.
