Instinct with HRM Swim

Hi everyone,

has anyone already swam with Instinct connected with HRM Swim? I successfully connected today the strap. While starting a swimming activity I saw that external HF was connected but after finishing the activity saving of it was strange to short/quick. After checking my stats in GC I do not see any HR Data. It means that Instinct hasn’t saved my HR Data from strap. Is it a bug or a feature?

it seems that swimming activity doesn’t have at all HR Datafields and even after starting and saving a new activity watch doesn’t save HR from the HRM Swim. Either HRM Swim is not supported for Instinct or it’s a bug. But if it were first option, I can’t understand why while starting a swimming activity it shows that external HR Sensor has connected

The HRM Tri and HRM Swim (and HRM Run for that matter) are not listed as accessories on the Instinct product page on the Garmin website. The DCR Review https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-t...n-depth-review also lists HR whilst swimming as not supported (see picture attached).

All that said, it does seem odd that Garmin have excluded this particular capability (to differentiate it from the higher end watches), when they will actually make money from the additional sales of their HRM Swim/Tri straps. Perhaps you should submit an idea to them here https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1427459.jpg

thanks Crispin, I think there is no sense to allow all ant+ sensors including HRM Swin to be able to connect but explicitly to disable datafields and reading data from HRM Swim.

and more on that:
"Heart Rate Features
The Instinct device has a wrist-based heart rate monitor and is also compatible with chest heart rate monitors (sold separately). You can view heart rate data on the heart rate widget. If both wrist-based heart rate and chest heart rate data are available, your device uses the chest heart rate data" (page 3)

So it make sense to open a Ticket. So I did ;)

The HRM-Swim is compatible with the Instinct, but it will work as a normal HR strap, without the offline download feature.

I hate this because it's obviously one small code block for a swimming activity for the watch

Yes, but the same holds true for many features that are absent from the instinct. It's not the matter of technical difficulty. For whatever reason garmin made the decision not to include it in the instinct, and I do not see any reason why they would change their mind.
