Current time of day in stopwatch mode

Hello to all.

I'm very interested in the new Instinct and am seriously considering purchasing one as it seems to be incredibly well featured and almost ideal for my needs. I do, however, have a slight concern about the stopwatch feature which hopefully someone could kindly clarify for me?

I currently wear a Pro-Trek prw-3100 which has proved to be, in almost respects, an excellent ABC watch. The functions that I use a lot aside from the ABC side of things are the stopwatch and the countdown timer. In both of these modes the current time of day is displayed which I find to be a great feature and saves having to scroll out to the time screen to check the current time.

As far as I can tell the current time is not available in stopwatch mode on the Instinct. Is this correct, and if so is there any way to add this feature? I did notice in this review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54l3oCGhyIU from 3:36 onwards regarding choosing activities, that one named 'tactical' (which is looked at in more detail at around 4:28) seems to have a timer, pace, and time of day fields on the same screen. It's not clear whether this is a stopwatch or a countdown timer but maybe this screen would give me the hoped for feature similar to the prw3100.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be most gratetful.

Many thanks in advance

  • Hi Jeff, I’ve had a few Protrek’s myself. Unfortunately, the Instinct does not have “Time” in Stopwatch mode, just Timer mode.

Hi Odie21, many thanks for the reply. I know it seems like a small feature but it's one that I fear I would really miss. I guess you have to live with a device for a while to appreciate it's pros and cons fully though.

    Thanks again!

  • Well, I’ve had the PAW-13/1500, PAW-2000, PRW-2500, PRG-260, PRW-3000, PRW-3100, PRW-3500, PRW-6000 and the PRW-7000. I’d like to think I’m pretty well versed in the Protrek field. The 7000 has by far the most/best features of all the Protrek’s. The Instinct makes the 7000 look like a child’s toy when you compare the features to that of the Instinct. You may miss the time on the 3100 in SW mode, but the 20+ features that come on the Instinct that the Protrek’s don’t have, you won’t miss it.

I’ll never go back to Protrek’s under their current format.
  • I'm certain that creating an activity based on Yoga for example is possible with a field showing timing and time of the day.
When the activity stopped you are not obliged to save it.

    Hi again Odie,

I've decided to take a closer look at the instinct and have ordered one to see how I get along with it. That's the real test and I certainly see your point that the many extra capabilities should make up for the lack of current time in stopwatch mode.

I'm just conscious that a few g-shocks have been consigned to the 'no longer in regular use' drawer as I found the lack of current time in STW a bit of a pain. I still use a DW6900 and a DW5600 which both have the older modules with this feature but my eyes are not as young as they once were and I struggle a bit with the digit size these days. The PRW3100 has much nicer sized digits for me and the Instinct looks to have a great display size and clarity too which is what has drawn me too it (along with the host of other great features)

Who knows, maybe a future update for the Instinct may include that very thing?

Hope you have a good evening. Bedtime's fast approaching here in sunny West Wales :)

    Hi NemoSandman,

thanks for that. I'm hopeful that there is a work-around of some sort similar to that which you've suggested. My wish list will be pretty much full then!
