Sleep Recording Issue

I’ve had a few Fenix 5 watches, along with the Descent MK1. I have my bed time (and do not disturb) set from 9:15pm-6:15am. I’ve worn the Instinct for sleep tracking for the past 2 nights and it is way off.

It shows both nights that I didn’t go to bed until 12am (I actually went to bed around 9pm both nights. Also, the morning it says that I got up at 4am, is wrong. I actually got up at 6am.

This is is set as my preferred activity tracker. Anyone else have this issue or suggestions? I really like this watch but I do take issue with things that don’t work.

Thank you ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1423260.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1423261.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1423262.png ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1423263.png
  • No issues here. So far the Instinct has tracked sleep accurately when wearing it at night. It is not in power saving mode when you see these issues, is it? That may affect sensor operation to conserve battery.
  • I’ve checked everything in the settings. I don’t see anything related to power saving for sleep mode/heart rate. Where would that be for the Instinct?
  • I seem to remember that the power save option pops up as an option automatically when battery is low. i have only seen it in that scenario. it came up when battery was down to one mark... i noted that with power save activated my weather widget updated temperature only veeery rarely... so given your question I thought that may be why you have issues with sleep pattern monitoring. But your case might have an entirely different cause.
  • Ok, so I tried something different. I went and deleted my other watch (Descent) off of GC, then re added it. I then went into GE and made sure that the Instinct was the “Preferred Activity Tracker”. While it had stated this before in the app, I had a sneaky suspicion that it wasn’t.

Low and behold, it (Instinct) monitored my sleep properly. The only thing it didn’t do was REM sleep.
