Garmin Explore and Waypoints

Hello,

I have been able to retrieve/see the waypoints generated on the Garmin Instinct (Saved Location) on my Garmin Explorer App and Web...

But I cannot seem to import Waypoint generated with the App or the Web ON my watch.

What am I missing ? How to easily import waypoints through sync ?

Thank you. (I have asked the question to Garmin help also)

Cheers
nemo
  • Have you configured a specific Collection in the Explore app to sync with your watch? (have a look in the watch settings in the Exolore app to see what’s there already). Collections are a bit like Playlists in iTunes , when you configure to only sync a specific Playlist (Collection) with a given device; not just syncing the whole Library. Once a collection has been set up, you just need to select the Waypoint from the Library, add it to the Colection and then it should sync over to the watch. Happily anything new on the watch will automatically sync to both the Collection and Library on Explore.
  • Thank you ! It has worked !!
Good to know how the collections will be add to the watch !
  • This may just be a result of me not knowing how this app works but I had a few saved locations on my watch but as soon as I connected it to the app, it uploaded my saved locations to the app. The problem is, they disappeared from my watch. Is there a way to keep my saved locations on my watch, or have the app send them back?
  • That is strange it should sync both way in non destructive. I don't see how the app can have authorization to erase things on your watch.
Perhaps try the new beta ? There are some works with Explore.
  • Odie, in the Explore app, a collection has been automatically created. This collection will be synced with the watch. The name of the collection is probably "My First Collection".

The problem is that Explore imports your waypoints from the watch to the Library in Explore - without adding them to this collection. Consequently, they disappear from the watch when you sync.

The cure is easy: Add all your waypoints in the Library to My First Collection, and they will reappear in the watch.

I guess this question will come up a lot. It is in my opinion an incredibly stupid design which will end up as a support nightmare to Garmin. The app will do something to the user's watch before the user has learned how the app works. That can only cause trouble.

(I was hit by the same issue, and even started a thread about it, where Crispin came to my rescue.)
  • Well, next time a similar question comes up, I’ll mention that Allan came to the rescue.

You go into Library/Waypoints/Edit then select the waypoint you want to be added, then “add to” and then the next page allows you to add back to the device.

    Thx again Allan

How many waypoints can be added for a course on the Garmin Instinct watch? In the explore app it says 200, but when I open the course in the watch it said that the maximum number of 50 has been exceeded so not all waypoints will be displayed. Does the number of courses impact how many waypoints each one can have?
