Poor solar chargement since 19.01 update

I am a new owner of a solar instinct since two months. I was really satisfied with my new watch (except altimeter that too often still needs to be recalobrated) especially for battery autonomy. Since 19.01 update i can see that solar power diagram shows less charging and this is confirmed by the reduced autonomy.

Is it possible to go back to the previous firmware version?

If so, I can only  find beta version of old firmwares. Is it possible to find stock firmware version? Which is the most reliable one?

  • Is it possible to find stock firmware version?

A fall-back release version is included in every beta package.

  • Thank you for the fast reply. In your opinion which is the best realease until now?

  • No idea, I gave away my Instinct 1st gen a year ago, and use Instinct 2 now. However, your problem is most likely just a problem of battery gauge calibration - it goes frequently haywire after a firmware update, and needs to be recalibrated by soft-resetting the watch, and going through the full charging cycle (overcharging it first, even if it already shows 100%).

  • I can confirm this. On 19.1 even in direct sun the watch doesn't charge. I have done a soft reset, hard wipe factory reset, full charge and nothing. The damn thing just doesn't charge in the sun.

  • I placed my instinct solar directly under the sun with no clouds, and after 1/2 hour, battery days left did not change at all. Thinking for returning this watch. It’s too bad it has much potential.

  • That’s normal. It takes an hour to get 1% usually. To speed up Solar charging you can actually turn the watch off and it will still charge. Just don’t let it get too hot in the sun or it could possibly cause battery damage

  • Having similar issues after the last update. I've had my instinct solar for almost a year. I've power cycled it and charged it fully. Now it thinks it's at 100% after a few days of use and won't charge in the sun.
