I have just purchase a new Instinct Solar….. after one ride it shows a message saying memory almost full…. Why?

This was the message after one activity…. No courses or other activities on the device

Also…. When plugged into tablet it shows USB storage 1 (the device) as 7.64 of 7.87 memory used. I have checked all the folders and there is nothing there to account for this amount of data.

The biggest file is gupdate…. The rest are tiny so I should have at least a couple of mb free I would think?….. so much for the advertised 16mb memory….

Well that’s wierd …. The device just updated itself so I tried a small walk test…. No memory message came up at the end this time. I did see once plugged in that the overall used memory had dropped by 0.15 mb…..The same test did so before the update. I will do a longer test and see what happens…… any input gratefully received.    Sorry about the multiple posts but I wanted to give you all the info I could….. I am still concerned of this behaviour on a brand new device…. 

Where did you buy the the watch? Could it be pre-owned? A new watch definitely has much more free storage than that.

You can definitely delete the GCD file, if the watch was already updated. Also check the folder //GARMIN/REMOTESW/ - there could be another GCD file, that can be equally deleted. You can delete all activities from the folder //GARMIN/Activity/, if the watch was already synced (do it regularly). More free space can be gained by deleting all unneeded languages from the folder //GARMIN/TEXT/.
