pace field not working in solar Instinct

I have issue in my Instinct Solar that the Pace in data field doesn’t show any whether any activity used. I’m doing the normal way waiting to GPS ticked in to my watch before i do any activity but still pace data field don’t work. I also did reset the watch but it is still the same. The weird thing is the lap pace field is working and even when i sync my watch to Garmin connect will have pace details. Anyone knows to solve this?

  • Probably a stupid question, but I have to ask it anyway: were you moving in the moment you took the first photo? The "Pace" data field shows the current pace, so if you do not move, it is empty. If you want to see the overall pace for the entire activity, you have to use the "avg. pace" data field.

  • i would assure you that in the 1st photo that i was moving. another info, here is the graph of my activity. noticed that Pace is just stagnant.

  • Do you have the same problem with the activities Cycling, Hiking, Walking, Run, Trail Run, OW Swim, and Treadmill too? If you did not try them all, do it just briefly now, no need to actually bike, run, or swim, just record a very short activity while moving around. BTW, does the steps counter work?

If you get no pace in any of those activity profiles, and the reset to factory defaults did not help, then you'll probably need to contact the Support for further assistance.

  • step counter works. lap pace works. even the audio prompts for average pace works. the only thing not working is the pace field. I tried other activities with pace field like walk or treadmill but pace field doesn’t work.

  • Could you share a link to a sample activity?

  • Yes, there is indeed something wrong with your watch. Below, there is a screenshot of the JSON data of your activity. There is no speed (value #8) and no moving time (value #11), at any of the track points. Normally, those fields are populated.

Did it start recently? Perhaps after the firmware update to the current v18.54? Did you try the full master reset to factory defaults, or just the hard reset (using the long-press of the Light button)? If you did not do the master reset, try it now. It will wipe out your settings, and you will have to reconnect the watch. Your data in Garmin Connect remain preserved, though.

If it does not help, then I suggest to try downgrading to an earlier firmware version, and preferably also downgrading the SNS sensor hub firmware. You will find older versions in the "beta" threads in this forum. The installation package always includes a fallback folder that you can use for the downgrade.

If it does not help, then you really need to contact the Support. Or do it right now, if you want to avoid the hassle with the firmware downgrade.

  • i tried the reset to factory defaults with delete user data. it doesn't work. i tried to upgrade the firmware to 18.54 hoping it might fix the issue but it's not. I'll try to downgrade the firmware now lower than 18.10 also the sns hub firmware.

  • Just a question - I see you are located in Philippines. Wasn't, by chance, your Instinct originally an APAC (Asia/Pacific) device? The firmware you currently have is not for APAC devices, and normally it should not be possible to install it on APAC devices. However, recently I saw someone who had to have his watch replaced, because he somehow managed to install a non-fitting firmware. It means that although it should not be possible to install incompatible firmware, it does not perhaps always work. So if you have an APAC device, then the non-matching firmware version could easily be the culprit, since the hardware of  APAC and ROW devices is not identical.

  • hmm. that would make sense. but i just tried to install the 18.54 to perform troubleshoot for my issue which not worked. I haven't perform or do manual firmware upgrade in the past i just rely on auto update settings on the watch. If that is the case, is there a possible process that i can perform to revert back it's previous compatible firmware?
