Garmin Instinct Solar turns off after starting of any activity

I got version 17.50 and my watch started to turn off after I turning on any activity and any set of activities. I tried to reset to defaults with full data wipe and hard reset also but none of this helped. Are there any solution for this problem? Could they lost their tightness and broke? I have them for little more than one year

  • I contacted product support Germany and reported Thema problem. They asked me to send the product and replaced it with a new one for free within three days. Exzellent service here.

  • The same occurred to me, TWICE!

I got my first INSTICT SOLAR (Surf) back in 2020 everything was good for 6 months until this error start to happened. I contacted GARMIN and I was told that it was an odd occurrence and that I will get a replacement watch, which I got. This second SOLAR (Surf Edition)  worked great for more than a year until a couple of weeks ago. My watch didn't retrieve TIDE data even when connected to my phone. I connected to my laptop via GARMIN EXPRESS and then it retrieved this information. I thought this was the end of my problem unitl I went surfing and when I finished my activity I tried to save and then my watch just turned off. Since that the problem has recurrently appeared and now even if I try simple things like going for a run or check my Pulse OX the watch simply shuts off.

What are the odds to get the same error in both devices?

This is very bad rep for GARMIN, probably you should discontinue the model?

I live in Costa Rica which makes very complicated the whole product replacement process.

    Best regards,

    Francisco Laurito

  • Try turning off the button vibration, this is caused by a battery problem

  • Vibrate for event reminders is also off

I, along with many others are having this issue and it's been raised many times in various threads such as: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/instinct-solar/279898/solar-instinct-crashing-randomly#pifragment-1292=1

It's clearly a software issue as it started happening to a lot of people's watches and a certain version...but Garmin refuse to accept this or even patch this. The easiest thing for them to do would be to do a new release that rolls back to the last working version which was before 17.5 if I remember correctly.

PS Garmin, get your Devs to test the software more thoroughly...alot of this stuff can be automated with code now....there's no excuse for a £250 watch!

  • Agreed it is definetely a software issue. They will save hundreds or thousands of customers. So if rollback happens, and my watch starts working again I might buy more Garmin products.  But for now my vote is go away from Garmin.

  • The watch is playing up whenever i try to track activity (eg: hike, swim, cycle etc), it will crash, turn off and only able to be restarted when plug in to charge. Moreover the time on display is always wrong even after sync, manual set and GPS time.
i have tried troubleshooting, including clearing data and factory reset but still doesnt works. could anyone advice what should i do?

I am sorry you have issues. Given what you have described taking place and the troubleshooting you have done, you will need to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • Agreed, I am going back to Apple. My Instinct Solar used to have amazing battery life, now it sucks and also randomly shuts down. I have tried all the, "Fixes" to no avail. Garmin ,"support" just as useless. I wonder if there is a way to roll the watch back to a stable version.

  • Same here...Apple I am coming back
